I am a regular patron of Nice, and a mother of 2 year old twins and a 8 month old baby. When all of them were younger I breastfed them on numerous occasions at Nice (always covering myself with a throw before I latch a baby, and while breastfeeding). Carla has never had a problem with my breastfeeding, and has always been amazingly supportive of the kids and the bulky twin-pram in her restaurant. She goes out of her way to make Moms and their kids feel comfortable, and to make space for prams and baby paraphernalia. Apart from the delicious food and great vibe, this restaurant most certainly is child friendly!
I also read the report and being a mother of two I know it may be awfull if a restaurant has no breastfeeding facilities, which I do not know if Nice on 4th has since I have never been there, but it is still not right to breastfeed in Public. I breastfeed both my girls and even if there are no proper facilities, you can go sit in the bathroom or in the car. This is not something you do in public - it is PRIVATE. I most certainly do not want to sit with my husband and children and stare into another mom's breast while breastfeeding in a RESTAURANT. If you know you are going out and there may not be facilities, you take the baby's bottle or dummy with you. Sorry, I am on Nice on 4th's side on this one.
I read in the papers today that although this restaurant calls themselves child friendly, they caused a woman to be very uncomfortable for breastfeeding her baby. I breastfed my son for eight months and thank goodness never encountered a single complaint or even a stare. I always consider the tolerance towards breastfeeding one of the great things about South Africa.Thumbs up to all those wonderfull restaurants who accommodated me and my breastfed baby. And a big thumbs down to Nice on 4th.
