I’ve always found that the eateries I like the most, are the ones I tell the least people about. There’s something special about a little place you love, that nobody else knows about. Tre Gatti is one of those places…

"The food’s simple and executed flawlessly with the focus being excellent raw materials, health and home-style cooking comfort"

Situated in Craighall Park there’s something distinctly restorative about the sleepy tree-lined lanes, the laid back atmosphere and general sense of well being that makes Tre Gatti such a fantastic eatery. The establishment itself is situated below street level and looks up towards the sidewalk, so don’t be embarrassed if you’ve driven or even walked past it countless times and never known it existed, that’s part of what makes this place so utterly wonderful.

The restaurants interior is quintessentially intimate featuring dark wood furniture, exposed Manhattan style red brick and lighting that’s softly satisfying. The restaurants Al Fresco area is small but comfortable and gives one the impression of being safely tucked away from the world. The food is simple and executed flawlessly with the focus being excellent raw materials, health and home-style cooking comfort.

Although the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (oh…and is ‘load shedding’ immune in case you were wondering) the menu features a wonderful balance between breakfasts, light meals – the kind one could eat at any time of day, and an excellent selection of authentic pasta dishes.

As a popular eatery for all kinds of people it’s a great place for a business breakfast, a relaxed light lunch or an intimate dinner…but personally it’s the kind of place I could sit at all day with a great book, a glass or three of red…and a lovely rich pasta for lunch or perhaps even an open sandwich.

All in all Tre Gatti is one of those places that you almost always return to. It’s comfortable, it’s intimate, it’s unassuming and most importantly it is absolutely fabulous!
